We owe so much to our social care workers and NHS staff. While many of us are staying at home to save lives, they are going into work to do the same thing.
Foreign workers are the backbone of our NHS and social care system, and we need to make sure they can concentrate on their job, rather than worrying about their immigration status. The Home Secretary recently said that any worker in the NHS whose visa is due to expire before October would get a one-year extension, free of charge.
While this is hugely welcome, the offer doesn’t extend to care workers. That means many of the 134,000 foreign staff in our care service will be faced with having to reapply for a visa in the middle of a pandemic when their thoughts should be on how best to care for their patients.
Our MP Network has written to the Home Secretary urging her to extend the offer she has made to NHS workers to care workers as well. That message will be even more powerful if it’s backed by thousands of voices from our network.
So can you add your name and stand up for care workers?
